3 Healthy Ways to Cook Fish at Home

As readers of this blog will know, our goal at Nuts Over Fish is to make cooking healthy and delicious meals easy. Using our seasoned nut toppings is the easiest way to turn filets of your favorite fish into seafood culinary delights. All you have to do is sprinkle some Nuts Over Fish topping into your fish and cook it. But what’s the best way to cook fish? You have options.

Here are three healthy ways to easily cook your favorite fish and enjoy seafood culinary delights at home.

Baking or Roasting

Baking or roasting fish is the most common way to cook fish at home, and it’s easy if you follow a few simple tips. To get stronger flavors from your preferred seasoning, let the fish sit for 15 to 30 minutes before cooking. How high you should preheat your oven depends on the fish you’re cooking. For white fish, 350ºF is best. Fattier fish, like salmon or swordfish, do well with higher heat, so preheat to 425ºF for those varieties. The thickness of your fish determines the cooking time. Cook the fish for 3 to 5 minutes per ½ inch of thickness.

Grilling

Grilling is the preferred cooking method of summer, and there’s no reason not to cook your fish on the grill. Thicker fish is easier to grill, but you can still grill thin filets if you’re careful and keep an eye on them. If your fish still has the skin on it, you can place it directly on the grill. For fish without skin, place it on a piece of aluminum foil to keep it from sticking to the grill. You want the grill to reach 400º to 450ºF, but this will make the fish cook very quickly. The internal temperature should be between 135º and 140ºF.

Air Frying

If you have an air fryer, it’s a great way to enjoy fried fish without all the excess oil. It is easy to dry the fish out in an air fryer, so you do have to be careful with this cooking method. To ensure even cooking, preheat the air fryer to 400ºF for about 10 minutes before putting your fish in. Most fish will only take about 10 to 12 minutes to cook in an air fryer, but you should check it at the halfway point to prevent overcooking it.
