There are many reasons why people shy away from baking fish. Even if you like fish, you might be hesitant to bake it yourself because you are worried that it will come out dry or tasteless. That will happen if you overcook it or don’t use the right seasoning. The good news is that you have the team at Nuts Over Fish to help you bake fish perfectly every time. For seasoning, sprinkle some of our crushed nuts topping on your fish for the perfect balance of flavors and textures.
When you have crushed nuts from Nuts Over Fish, seasoning is the easy part. Take these tips to help you bake it perfectly every time.
Prepare Your Fish
First things first: get your fish ready to cook! If you’re cooking frozen fish, make sure you let it thaw completely. This will ensure that it cooks evenly. Next, it’s important to get the oven temperature right. If you are baking filets or steaks, preheat your oven to 450º F. For a whole fish, you’ll want 350º F. Add your favorite Nuts Over Fish topping and get ready to put it in the oven!
There are multiple baking methods that will give you tender, flaky fish. You can bake it inside foil to help it stay moist, just be careful not to wrap it too tight. A similar method is to wrap parchment paper around the fish and place it in a baking dish. However, when using our crushed nuts topping on your fish, you want it to be crispy. So we recommend greasing or lining a glass baking dish with parchment paper and leaving the top open. Glass is preferable to metal as it cooks more evenly.
Work Out the Cook Time
Where people usually go wrong with fish is baking it for too long. If you’re cooking a whole fish, weigh it before you start. You should bake it for 6 to 9 minutes per 8 ounces. For filets and steaks, measure the thickness of the fish. Bake it for 4 to 6 minutes per ½ inch.
Knowing when it’s done is actually easier than you think. After the minimum cooking time, insert a fork into the thickest part of the fish and twist. If it flakes easily, it’s done. If not, test it again in a few minutes.
